Thank you to our Hewlett Packard employee volunteers, Jeff Oneida, Sum Yee Lai, Isaac Jessop, and Patrick Hulligan for facilitating this year’s Hour of Code activity.   The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify “code”, to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts.

Grab your hiking boots, backpack and water bottle and join the Liberty Hiking Club as we explore various trails in the local area. Below please find additional information and scheduled trips for the 2018-19 school year.

Overview & Purpose

Our goal is to introduce students to the joys and experiences waiting in the great outdoors. Students will have the opportunity to encounter and explore several local hikes during the hiking club which will take place over the rest of the year. Hiking is an often overlooked form of physical activity that not only provides a physical challenge, but also provides a sense of exploration and wonder that is often lost during our daily immersion into modern technology.

Requirements for Luckiamute Landing

Parents and guardians are responsible for transportation. *Students must have a parent/guardian present on the hike.

1. Bring water and appropriate shoes.
2. Dress appropriately for the weather. (Bring a coat for winter hikes, etc.)

The Liberty School community worked together during two weeks in November to pull off a very successful canned food and coin drive to help families in need during the Thanksgiving holiday.  Students raised $650.47 dollars with the coin drive and were able to fill multiple boxes with donated food items.  Mr. Nazarian’s class lead the food drive with over 179 items donated!

Between the coin drive and canned food collection students were able to provide 14 meals for families.  A big THANK YOU to Mrs. Rider and the 5th grade leadership students, Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Nazarian, and all staff and students who participated to make this even such a huge success!

A company called Niche researches U.S. colleges, schools, neighborhoods, and companies. They recently released their school district rankings. The 2019 Best School Districts ranking is based on rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents using data from the U.S. Department of Education. Ranking factors include state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores, teacher quality, public school district ratings, and more. Greater Albany Public Schools ranked #8 in the state of Oregon with an Overall Niche Grade of B+.
